Our Organization
Congregational Units
Congregational units are the largest expression of the organization and are the heart of the organization. This is where we grow the organization, inviting women to experience the reconciling and transforming love of God through Jesus Christ, encouraging women to act on their baptismal covenant.

Women gather in small groups for Bible study, service projects for their congregation and their community, and share in the fellowship they have as sisters in faith.

Information on starting a group at your congregation or in your setting can be found on the Women of the ELCA website at https://www.womenoftheelca.org/blog/news/four-steps-to-becoming-an-active-unit

Synodical Organizations
Synodical organizations work in partnership with the local units in their geographic area and withing the churchwide women's organization.
Synodical organizations provide support to women in congregations. Each synodical organization has a board elected at their convention.
Synodical organizations can provide leadership development, community building, stewardship education, and networks for communication, and opportunities for joint ministry within the synodical area.

Churchwide Organization
The churchwide women's organization is the entire organization across the 64 geographical synods in the United States and the Caribbean. It provides resources, leadership, and opportunities to all women to grow in their faith.

The board of the churchwide organization reflects the diversity of geography and culture throughout the ELCA. It is elected at a convention held every three years.

Women of the ELCA is the women's ministry of the ELCA. It is separately incorporated and is not an auxiliary of the church. It is financially independent and is supported by individual and group offerings and gifts.
